WA STATE FERRIES: Recent changes in the reservation system: Please note that when sailing with a reservation from Anacortes to the San Juans, you must be through the ticket booth 30 minutes before your departure time or you will lose your reservation. (The old rule was one had to be in line for the ticket booth.)  The second change is you can now make reservations 2 hours ahead of a sailing instead of 3 hours.

To make a ferry reservation, please visit - www.takeaferry.com  You will find helpful links on this page regarding the reservation system.

FRIDAY- August 19, 2016

San Juan County Fair 10am-9pm "Barn and Raised in the San Juan Island!" Lots of things to see and do.  Great experience for your family and visitors!  Location: San Juan County Fair Grounds, Friday Harbor Website: www.sjcfair.org/

Ladies Social Tennis Every Friday morning 9-10am Come join us this summer!  All levels; no prior sign up; no cost. Location: Tennis Courts Just South of the School on Center Rd.

Farm, Food and Health Workshop 5pm The workshop will explore the intersection of holistic medicine and biodynamics in producing nutritionally whole, live giving food to secure the robust health now eluding many Americans. Dr. Roy Ozanne, a homeopathic physician associated with S&S Homestead Farm, and Dr. Charise Ivy, a holistic physician practicing preventive medicine in California, will explore the causes of the current epidemic of degenerative disease and general ill health in modern society, and point to timeless solutions in traditional food ways. The workshop will show that nutritional health begins with healthy soils and make the connection between quality of food, quality of life, and biodynamic farming and gardening., The workshop will feature farm-grown foods, starting with dinner on Friday nights and ending with breakfast on Sunday morning. Rising Appalachia 7:30pm Rising Appalachia brings to the stage a collection of sounds, stories, and songs steeped in tradition and a devotion to world culture. Intertwining a deep reverence for folk music and a passion for justice, they have made it their life's work to sing songs that speak to something ancient yet surging with relevance. Whether playing at Red Rocks or in rail cars, at Italian street fairs or to Bulgarian herbalists, this fiercely independent band has blazed a unique and colorful path across the globe. 11 years into their movement, Rising Appalachia believes that the roots of all these old songs are vital to our ever evolving soundscape.

Poet Molly Swan-Sheeran Reads New Work 2pm-3pm A favorite local poet, Molly Swan-Sheeran will read from new work. Swan-Sheeran is known for her collections of poems "Harpo Marx Angels" and "Double Rainbow". Her work is splendidly written & often laced with our island landscape. Besides the usual food fare and good cheer, there will be wood-fired pizza, Darts, Corn-hole, Dominos, Backgammon, Cribbage and other games you may wish to provide. Please plan your life accordingly. Jo-ann Lange and Alice Williams in Concert at Lopez Hamlet 7pm In her first Lopez concert in 3 years, soprano Jo-Ann Lange will be joined by accompanist Alice Williams. Their program features Spanish and Italian classical pieces, musical theatre selections, a few folk tunes, a touch of jazz, plus piano and harp solos by Alice. Coffee with the Birds Spencer Spit State Park 9am Join us for a relaxing morning of birding. Bring your own mug; we’ll supply the fresh brewed coffee, cream and sweetener! Hot chocolate for the kids. We’ll enjoy a slideshow of birds found on Spencer Spit, and then explore the marsh, shoreline and forest in search of birds.
