2016 Tour de Lopez apparel is now available at the Chamber office.  Some 2015 Tour de Lopez apparel is also available at a discount.

WA STATE FERRIES: Starting with the Spring Schedule that began on Sunday March 20th, there are 2 changes in the reservation system. Please note that when sailing with a reservation from Anacortes to the San Juans, you must be through the ticket booth 30 minutes before your departure time or you will lose your reservation. The old rule was one had to be in line for the ticket booth.  The second change is you can now make reservations 2 hours ahead of a sailing instead of 3 hours.

Summer Ferry Schedule now in effect - reservations are now open for the summer schedule.

SATURDAY – June 18, 2016

Lopez Island Library Children's Program: Author Thor Hanson Reads "Bartholomew Quill" 4:00pm - 5:00pm Tour the animal kingdom from a crow's point of view in this whimsical mix of science and poetry. The rhyming story and beautiful illustrations of Pacific Northwest wildlife are featured in this wonderful children's book. Hanson's research and conservation activities have taken him around the globe. He has studied Central American trees and songbirds, nest predation in Tanzania, and the grisly feeding habits of African vultures. He served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Uganda, where he helped establish the mountain gorilla tourism program in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and he has also helped manage a brown bear tourism project for the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska. An Evening with Award Winning Author Thor Hanson "The Triumph of Seeds" 7:00pm - 8:00pm  Award winning author Thor Hanson discusses and reads from his book The Triumph of Seeds which won the 2016 Pacific Northwest Book Award and was a finalist for the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize.  Hanson’s research and conservation activities have taken him around the globe. Pesticides, fungicides and other poisons, gasoline and other waste fuels, wood preservatives, oil-based paints and stains, solvents and thinners, pool and photo chemicals, resins, corrosives, degreasers, cleaning products, spent fluorescent light tubes and bulbs, mercury, rechargeable batteries, propane cylinders, and aerosols. out of the environment. What not to bring - The following are not accepted at the roundup: Flares, explosives, or ammunition – deliver these to the Sheriff’s Office. Antifreeze, motor oil, and vehicle batteries – recycle at your island’s solid waste facility during regular business hours. Latex paint –dry out (solidify) and dispose as regular solid waste. How much will it cost? There is NO CHARGE at this year’s roundup for HOUSEHOLDS disposing of 25gallons or less of hazardous waste. Your disposal costs are being paid by the San Juan County Solid Waste Division and Washington Department of Ecology. BUSINESSES will be charged for their disposal costs and must pre-register 10 days before the event by calling 370-0534. Sustainable Tourism ~ Next Steps 6:00pm "Collaboration is not about gluing together existing egos. It's about the ideas that never existed until after everyone entered the room." All data from the April 9 meeting has been sorted and we'll have a chance to revisit those outcomes. At this meeting we will: review our last meeting's accomplishments, highlight positives that have transpired since, reflect on goals and low hanging fruit and work in teams to set action plans.
