Washington State Ferry Reservation System Outreach Meeting: This coming Saturday, October 18, there will be 4 back-to-back meetings at the Lopez Library, at 12:30pm, 2pm, 3:30pm and 5pm. The first 3 meetings will include a presentation and a Q&A, and will also offer account sign-up assistance, The 5pm presentation is a short session with no Q&A, no account signup. Each presentation is only 15 minutes long, with the rest of the meeting for questions and account signup.
San Juan Island Cheese and Island Grown are proud to present the first annual "Bite of the San Juan Islands" on Sunday, October 26, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Brickworks in Friday Harbor. The event will showcase the amazing quality of chefs and farmers/food/beverage producers on our islands. It will be held Lopez is being represented by Barn Owl Bakery and Lopez Island Vineyards. There will be a Crowdfunding Workshop on Monday, Oct 27 from 9am-3pm at Brickworks in Friday Harbor. Offered by the San Juan County EDC, Crowdfunding is an exciting way for entrepreneurs to use online communities like Kickstarter to ask for monetary pledges from individuals. The San Juan County Arts Council (SJCAC) is seeking 4-5 new members for the Board of Directors to begin November, 2014. Applicants need not be artists but should care about the arts and bring management, development and collaboration skills to advance the state of the arts in the county. Open Mic Poetry Reading at The Joinery – 8-10pm, next to the Thrift Shop on Eads Lane, Lopez Village. Presented by Lopez Library and DVSAS. This Open Mic poetry reading is being held at the Joinery to benefit DVSAS. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and a portion of the $5-10 sliding scale requested donation will benefit DVSAS. Sing, tell a story, play an instrument, dance or read a poem. If you walk along Fisherman Bay Road, you will find silhouettes and biographies of those that died. This event is a formal ceremony to remember their names. We will remember not only the names of those that died, but the women and men who are experiencing relationship violence right now in our community.
