NIKYTA PALMISANI WITH LSWDD: nikytap@lopezsolidwaste.org , wants to extend the offer to help Chamber members to reduce their waste costs and improve recycling efforts. She is  available to do consulting for  businesses free of charge, to review their current waste (garbage) bill and help strategize and organize spaces to increase recycling efforts.  This is a free service.  LSWDD is offering this as part of the grant that they are working on for the Department of the Environment with the goal of reducing waste Island wide in both households and businesses.

LSWDD AND BLM:  Invite you to be one of the sponsors of the Great Islands Clean Up.  In celebration of Earth Day 2015, the Lopez Solid Waste Disposal District and BLM are teaming up for an island wide spring-cleaning event on April 18th, 2015. We need sponsors. We need individual volunteers. We need drivers. We need 20 team leaders. Fundraiser dinner at "The Bay Cafe" for Lopez High School Baseball - The Bay, #9 Old Post Road, Lopez Village,  The Bay is kindly hosting a fundraiser dinner for our Lopez High School Baseball team. The monies will cover transportation (bus driver, ferry fare, gas), visiting umpire costs/travel, some equipment, and minor field maintenance. Uniforms and most equipment were purchased last year. Sailing the Salish Seas in the Dog Days2pm, The Hamlet/Gathering Place, 224 Weeks Road, Lopez Village,  Russel and Madrona, experts on Native people in our region, present "Sailing the Salish Seas in the Dog Days". Their lecture will take us on a journey through the islands 250 years ago by sail canoe to learn how the first Lopezians worked, traded and traveled. Russel and Madrona's material is taken from family histories, historical records and archaeology.

The Bold Ones7pm, Grace Church Parish Hall, 70 Sunset Lane, Lopez Village,  Two emerging leaders, Tannur Ali, a poet performer, social artist and founder of iLOGIC in her Georgia neighborhood, and Antonio Gutierrez, a housing activist from Chicago, will be speaking at the 25th Annual Meeting of Lopez Community Land Trust. Tannur Ali leaves audiences spellbound with her poetry performances. Antonio is the housing coordinator for Centro in Chicago. Everyone is welcome, and LCLT encourages all ages to attend. The evening will feature a dessert auction and election of a new board member, Maija Wilder. "No Time to Waste" Art Opening5pm, Lopez Center for Community and the Arts (LCCA), 204 Village Road, Lopez Village,  This art show is the culmination of a 10 week Creative Reuse Salon where artists of all ages and experience levels came together to braid research together with activism and art around issues of waste. What resulted is an educational and profound art show where the research is embedded in the art, and the art is in response to the research. The opening will have a question and answer community discussion at 6 pm. Art will be on display through May 5, 2015. Admission: Free.
